I finally finished the new website. I'm much happier with the new look.

A huge thanks to the guys at indexhibit.org for what they do. They have created an amazing platform for artists to create their own professional looking site with just minimal knowledge in website design. Plus, just looking at other websites from other participants is so inspiring.

Editing The Past

Editing The Past is a series created from the hundreds of photos in my personal collection of family photos dating back to 1960 (long before I was born). Each of the scenes depicted in these works are created by clipping parts from several photos and recreating a new scene.

The Misfortune Series takes a darkly humorous look at some unfortunate events that are in the process of unfolding, changing the lives of those involved.

Each piece in the Commentary series illustrates a single theme through photo manipulation. The titles are very important in these works, as each one is built whimsically around a word or phrase.

I get a lot of questions about these three pieces. Regardless of how they look, they are 100% digital. I used LOTS of photos of mold, rust, and paint all mixed together to achieve the effect of some of my real paintings.

A visual interpretation of how the artist's head feels when creativity is flowing. These are the good times, when there are more than enough ideas to choose from.

The Impressionists

As the title of this series suggests, these works were created in an Impressionistic style. However, The Impressionists are not paintings in the traditional sense. There is no real paint and no canvas. These are manipulated photographs of textures such as paint, rust, mold and bird droppings arranged to give only an impression of each subject.

Words and the possibility of their double meaning is a theme that runs through many of my pieces. For these works, it is the series title that is a play on words. These pieces are not only innocently mocking the style of the Impressionists, but are only impressions of real paintings as well.

Music And Art Part 2 - Quartet Pounder

I mentioned in the last "Music And Art" post that I have many friends that are musicians. Beginning in 2006 several of them would get together from time to time for improv sessions. Anyone was welcome and there would often be ten or more experimental musicians involved. Being the wife of one of these musicians I would travel along and, although I enjoyed the music immensely, I found myself a bit bored.

My solution was to bring my laptop along and make the best of the time by working on artwork. Over time this became a standard for the improv nights and I got better at using the music to fuel creativity and immediately interpret the moment visually in Photoshop.

Three of the more Dada influenced musicians developed a smaller, more refined idea for improv music based on the artwork of Francis Bacon. For each session a Bacon piece would be chosen for musical interpretation and I would then create a new piece of artwork for the moment.

We called ourselves "The Quartet Pounder". The name was derived over silly conversations based on the word "bacon".

Music And Art Part 1 - Paw Of Zing

I'm hoping to create an ongoing series about music and art together.

I use the inspiration of music in all of my art and just my life in general. I have been obsessed with music as far back as I could remember. I am married to a musician and I would say that 98% of my friends are musicians. I am very lucky to have such creative friends. I find that the music that my friends create is sometimes the best inspiration for my own creativity.

For this first installment of "Music And Art" I want to introduce two of my very creative friends Elisa and Scott aka "Paw Of Zing". You can hear their music here...

Post No Garde pays homage No Garde's failed potential. Moving forward without beginning. Starting at the end. Immortalizing only the spark of creativity. Influenced by the ideas of the past, not their results. An evolutionary jump in original thought.

Regurgitating the same trend for every new generation has created artists that should have never been and hidden the true innovators of our time. Post No Garde says its time to break the retro cycle.

Challenge yourself to come up with something completely unique, something that's never been done before.

Have an original idea and immediately go beyond it. Push it to the next level before it's ever known to anyone.

Don't imitate your influences, but be inspired by their acts of creativity.

Take notice of the fads and counteract them.

Post No Garde has jumped the track and is traveling at random, out of control.
